First Week of School!
Well, here we are with, what is for me the first week of school done and completed! It has been a very busy week filled with lots of reflection, greetings and work. It has been wonderful to get back at it though after a year away from teaching. It is so nice to have my own classroom with my own set of students. The students have been wonderful; full of joy for learning and curiousity.
As promised I have developed a week schedule of things that I will include here on my blog. I will also be adding a class blog but that will be later and after I have some time to plan it. Here is the schedule:
- Monday: Photo Monday – Every Monday I will post a picture of mine. Maybe it’s a little self serving and immodest but if your going to take pictures, you should display them right? And not just put them in a box.
- Tuesday: Haiku/Poem day – Either a poem of my own or one I have found and love! I think poetry is great and think that we should all write more poetry. And Haiku’s are just plain fun!
- Wednesday: Ed site – On Wednesday, I’ll highlight a website that I think teachers should know about and might help bringing technology into the class.
- Thursday: Technology in the class – This may be more for me but I thought I would continue looking around for ideas on how to integrate the many new (and old) technologies into the class. Sometimes, with all the new sites and web 2.0 tools out there, ideas get lost or forgotten. This may help me more but I wanted to get down and reflect on how to integrate these tools into the classroom especially at a lower elementary level which seems sometimes to get left out of the mix when people talk about integrate web 2.0 tools in the classroom. People tend to highlight more uses for the upper grades (junior high and up). It’s time to bring down to our level. Power to the Elementary!!!!
- Friday: Friday Reflection – Fridays will be reflection day as I think about the blogs, sites, school happenings, etc.
And that is my first Friday Reflection! Have a great weekend!!!

Hi there — just found you. Looks like you and I are on the same page about some things re: school. I’m about to have my 4th week. I look forward to reading about your edtech adventures and sharing ideas. If there’s anything I can do to help you, let me know.
Would you please tell me which widgetbox you used for the “Books I’m Reading” widget? I can’t seem to get my widgets to work. Just started learning how to edublog.org. Thanks!

I used a site called “Librarything”. You can find it at http://www.librarything.com/. It’s a nice site but I haven’t quite figured out how to set up multiple lists. You can also only have up to ten books listed at a time unless you actually pay for the service. I set the service up as an RSS feed as the blog doesn’t allow scripting. I did this by setting the RSS address as http://www.librarything.com/rss/recent/xxxx putting your username where the xxxx’s are. Unfortunately you lose out on the pictures.
Hope that helps! Thanks for reading.
